Senior Consultant Data Engineering & Energy Systems (m/f/d)
Net Zero is a specialised consultancy for energy infrastructure and transformation. We work at the intersection of the energy sector, digitalisation, data management and software development. The energy sector is changing fundamentally: more volatility, more data, more systems, more operational complexity. This increases the need for people who can understand, design and help build digital solutions themselves. With us, you lead topics on your own responsibility, work closely with decision-makers and business units and help shape a consulting offering that makes the energy sector more digital, more data-driven and more future-proof.
You are technically strong, program independently and can translate complex functional requirements into data models, architectures, prototypes or actionable solution concepts. You do not need to have worked in the energy sector for ten years. But you should understand how transmission and distribution system operators work and why digital capabilities are decisive for their future. We work on our consulting with the highest quality standards - and we are looking for someone who shares that standard.
Your responsibilities
- Consulting with technical substance: You advise grid operators and energy-sector organisations on digital transformation projects, data strategies, automation solutions and IT-related operational processes.
- Data & analytics: You analyse data, develop models, build evaluations and turn operational questions into robust analytical decision bases.
- Hands-on delivery: You program yourself, for example in Python, SQL or comparable common programming languages, and build prototypes, automations, data pipelines or structured analysis tools.
- Translating requirements into solutions: You capture functional requirements and turn them into clear data, process, architecture and implementation concepts - from the first target picture to the operationalisable solution.
- Interface between business and IT: You mediate between grid operations, business units, IT, service providers and management and ensure that technical solutions are functionally relevant and organisationally viable.
- Project and stakeholder management: You structure complex initiatives, steer work packages, prepare decisions and keep client projects moving.
- Shaping growth: You actively develop our consulting offering in digital grid operations, data management, automation and AI applications.
Your profile
- An excellent degree in computer science, business informatics, data science, electrical engineering, energy economics, industrial engineering or a comparable technical field of study.
- Several years of relevant professional experience in consulting, IT/digitalisation projects, data science or software development, ideally at the interface with the energy sector.
- You program independently, ideally with Python and/or SQL. Further experience with R, JavaScript, Spark, dbt, Airflow, APIs or cloud environments is a plus.
- You think in terms of data flows, interfaces, systems and processes. Terms like data model, pipeline, API, data quality, data governance or automation are familiar to you.
- You have already gained experience in the energy sector, at grid operators, in the critical infrastructure (KRITIS) environment or in energy-related digitalisation projects - or you bring a clear willingness to get up to speed quickly and deeply in this world.
- Ideally you bring experience in several of these technology fields: semantic data modelling (RDF/OWL, SPARQL, CIM/CGMES per IEC 61970/61968, XML/XSD, UML, ontology design); backend & integration (Java, Spring Boot, REST, gRPC/Protobuf, AMQP); client-side development (C#/.NET, WPF); development and operations environment (Linux, GitLab, Maven, Jenkins, Ansible, CI/CD).
- Also helpful is experience with cloud and container technologies, BI/analytics tools, machine learning, MLOps or agile product teams.
- You communicate clearly and convincingly in German and English - with clients on site, in workshops, in code reviews or at the whiteboard.
What we offer
- Entrepreneurial freedom.
- Room to shape things and your own budget.
- Flexible working, fair pay, honest feedback.
- An environment where above-average performance is visible - and pays off.
